Unfortunately, quite a few celebrities first made a name

for themselves - or greatly enhanced their star power - by ending up on the Internet in a sex tape.

Perhaps the most infamous sex tape was the one that featured actress (we're being very kind here) Pamela Anderson and her then-husband Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee on their honeymoon. The couple married on Feb. 19, 1995, and the tape was later stolen from their home and posted online.

The Pamela Anderson Lee sex tape was hugely popular both among Internet surfers and late night talk show hosts looking for a punch line. Anderson sued the company that first distributed the video and won a $1.5 million judgement.

If the Pamela Anderson Lee sex tape was the bang heard around the world, it was followed by a sonic boom. In 2003, a sex tape made in 1999 by heiress Paris Hilton and her then-boyfriend Rick Salomon (formerly married to Shannen Doherty), hit the Internet and created huge buzz for the young woman whose attempts at an entertainment career were ongoing and annoying.

A week after the Paris Hilton sex tape hit the net, the heiress debuted on her reality TV series, "The Simple Life." And we haven't stopped hearing about her since.

Tragically, the world continues to face the scourge of sex tapes. It is now rumored that another young starlet, Lindsay Lohan, appears along with ex-boyfriend Calum Best in a sex tape now hitting the Web. It's also rumored that New England Patriot quarterback Tom Brady and supermodel girlfriend Gisele Bundchen (recently of the firm Leo Leo and DiCaprio) were caught in the act on a sex tape that soon will be coming to a web site near you.
