Dogging is a British slang term involving a sexual nature. It describes
the act of engaging in sexual acts in a semi-secluded place (such as a park or car), and then watching others do so as well.
Many times, there are more than two individuals participating; both group sex and gang banging are encouraged. Because observation is encouraged, voyeurism and exhibition are commonly associated with dogging. Often the participants meet randomly, although with the proliferation of the Internet, they are commonly arranging to meet up beforehand on the Internet.
A BBC report in 2003 on this relatively recent craze cited the Internet and text messaging as common ways participants use to arrange their meetings. The original definition of dogging was spying on couples having sex in a car or other public place. Although originally a British phenomenon, there is some Internet evidence that this is now spreading to other countries, including the United States, Canada, Greenland, Ireland, Australia, Barbados, Brazil, the Netherlands, Norway, and Poland.
From a legal standpoint, dogging typically would fall under laws related to voyeurism, exhibitionism, or public displays of sexual behavior.
