What are the top 10 movies of all time?

Answer:
That's a matter of some debate. There are many
ways to judge films - by box office earnings or by a survey of movie goers. Let's take a look at how the top 10 movie list changes based on these various factors.

If we're going to judge movies simply by box office earnings, then the top 10 list looks like this:

1. Titanic (1997) - $600,779,824
2. Star Wars (1977) - $460,935,665
3. Shrek 2 (2004) - $436,471,036
4. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) - $434,949,459
5. Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999) -    $431,065,444
6. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006) -    $423,032,628
7. Spider-Man (2002) - $403,706,375
8. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005) -    $380,262,555
9. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) -    $377,019,252
10. Spider-Man 2 (2004) - $373,377,893

But money isn't the only way to judge a film. We like to refer to imdb.com for all things film, and according to votes from imdb users, the list is somewhat different:

1. The Godfather (1972)
2. The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
3. The Godfather: Part II (1974)
4. Buono, il brutto, il cattivo, Il (1966)
5. Pulp Fiction (1994)
6. Schindler's List (1993)
7. Casablanca (1942)
8. Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
9. Shichinin no samurai (1954)
10. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)

Wasn't Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ up there? I read that this movie could make Mel a billion dollars. It would be cool to see total grossing by category as well. I also think you forgot to mention:
Better off Dead
The Jerk
from your top movies list.

Good question. Passion of the Christ, released in 2004, was in the top 10 list until it was bumped down by the second Pirates of the Carribean and third Star Wars prequel. Passion has earned $370,782,930. Nothing would make me happier than to add Better Off Dead to the top 10 list. As for The Jerk, let's just agree to disagree, OK?
