What's up with the Halloween remake?

Answer:
Director Rob Zombie is calling this a "re-imagining"
of John Carpenter's classic 1978 horror film, Halloween, which starred Jamie Lee Curtis as a babysitter being stalked by the bogeyman.

The film is essentially a re-make of the original Halloween with all of the familiar characters, including murderous Michael Myers (this time portrayed in adulthood by Tyler Mane), his obsessed psychiatrist Doctor Loomis (Malcolm McDowell) and, of course, babysitter Laurie Strode (Scout Taylor-Compton) and her libidinous teen-age friends.

If you're like us, you're wondering why anyone would want to remake a classic horror film. At face value, this film seems about as necessary as Gus Van Sant's 1998 remake of Hitchcock's famous Psycho (1960). Zombie, however, is quick to note that his film takes the Halloween story to another level by spending some time exploring the troubled childhood of Michael Myers.

While Zombie's film will cover new ground and offer insight into the mind and motivations of Michael Myers, the director has reportedly kept the killer's signature white mask and John Carpenter's haunting score. Both decisions will no doubt prove popular with fans of the original Halloween.

While the new Myers mask is torn and looks worse for the wear, Zombie commented that "It looks perfect, exactly like the original. Not since 1978 has The Shape looked so good."

We hope the same will be true of this film when Halloween opens Aug. 31.
