What is a host?

At restaraunts, a host or hostess is the person who takes the guests to their seats and preps the tables for the next customer.  They must have very good people skills and be able to work under stress.

In computers, a host machine is usually a server, but it can refer to any machine on which a centralized database of files or on which printers or internet connections are attached.  It is a computer that all other computers can access shared files or shared printers from, also known as "file or print servers".
