What is Baseball?

Answer:
A sport of American origin, baseball pits two
teams of 9 people against each other to score the most runs. The game is divided into 9 innings in which each team has an opportunity to play the field and bat.

The team in the field puts players in 9 locations: the catcher at home plate, first, second and third basemen, the pitcher in the center of the infield, a shortstop between second and third base and three outfielders (left, center and right.) The pitcher throws the baseball to the opposite team's batter at home plate and the batter attempts to hit the ball into the field.

While the ball is in play, the batter runs the bases and back to home. The team in the field attempts to catch the ball or throw the ball to someone who can use it to tag the batter. Each team bats until they have accrued three outs, which can happen by getting three strikes at bat, hitting a ball that is caught by the other team before it touches the ground, or getting tagged by a field player as they run around the base. In the US, Major League Baseball is the largest professional baseball association with teams in most major cities.
