What new DVDs are in stores now?

Answer:
You have waited long enough and now it's time for your reward. CHiPs: The Complete First Season
hit stores on Tuesday, June 5 retailing at $39.98. A piece of classic Americana that disgraced TV sets everywhere from 1977 to 1983, CHiPs was the story of two motorcycle cops in central Los Angeles - macho Hispanic Ponch, played by Erik Estrada and boring white guy Jon Baker, played by boring white guy Larry Wilcox.

The show officially jumped the shark during Season 5 when Bruce Jenner stepped in for Estrada, who missed several shows during a protracted contract dispute. Estrada and Wilcox eventually had a falling out (over who used the most hair spray, no doubt) and Wilcox was replaced in Season 6.

CHiPs, like most TV shows of the era, tended to follow a specific formula that mixed attempts at humor with melo, or in this case mellow, drama. The boys on bikes often found themselves patroling Malibu and bringing down crime rings. For levity, Ponch would try to impress a new pretty young lady each week only to fumble the play to the delight of his fellow officers.

If you enjoyed this show as a child and want to find out how poorly it holds up today, you'll want to pull over and buy season one of CHiPs, but you'd probably rather just get by with a warning.
