What's new on DVD for Aug. 28, 2007?

Answer:
Blades of Glory leads the list of DVDs being released Aug. 28. If you like your comedy dumb (and dumber), it doesn't get much better than this. Will Ferrell (of Elf and Old School fame) and Jon Heder (best known as Napoleon Dynamite) star as ice skaters who are banned from professional skating. They find a loophole, however, and return to competition as a men's figure skating pair. Now why didn't Tonya Harding think of that?

We're going to be brutally honest here. We know this kind of movie has a strong following, and that nothing will keep you from checking out the fun.

Just know that the whole thing seems like a Saturday Night Live skit that was funny at two minutes but painful when stretched to 93 minutes.

But, as we said, we know you love you some Will Ferrell and Jon Heder, so we're not going to stand in your way. We'll give it a solid 8 (counting off a few points for that awkward dismount).

Speaking of Saturday Night Live, the comedy show alum have a few more DVDs for your entertainment this week.

Ferrell's 1998 classic (if you can call it that) "A Night at the Roxbury"
is back on DVD with featurettes. Buy it if you must, and "Baby don't hurt me ... don't hurt me no more."

Now, "Year of the Dog" is a film starring SNL alum Molly Shannon, and we give this movie high marks. Shannon does drama VERY well. Here she stars as a secretary whose life is turned on end when her beloved dog Pencil dies suddenly. She find solace only through a fellow animal lover, and she turns her connection the animal kingdom into activism of the highest order.

You'll find Shannon tickling your funny bone even as she pulls on the old heart strings. We highly recommend "Year of the Dog."
