What's new on DVD July 24? |

Answer:
Zodiac tops our list of new DVDs on sale July 24, 2007. We were so traumatized during the film's first half hour that we debated leaving the theater.
The thriller's re-enactment of the killer's early attacks are chilling! This film is a dramatization of the infamous serial killer whose work put Californians on edge through the late 1960s and 1970s. If you're a fan of serial killer films, Zodiac will be the ultimate high for you. Directed by David Fincher, the story focuses on an investigator (Mark Ruffalo) and the newspaper editorial cartoonist (Jake Gyllenhaal) who becomes obsessed with solving the heinous crimes. Gripping and well-acted, this film nonetheless had us feeling like we were reliving the 70s minute by minute (it's two hours and 40 minutes long!). Despite that, we do recommend Zodiac. That's a good sign.
Another thriller on sale today is The Number 23 starring Jim Carrey as a family man who becomes fixated on the prevalence of the number 23. We liked the premise of the film a lot more than the execution. A good thriller surprises you and catches you off guard. The Number 23 fails on both these points, but it remains an interesting concept worth exploring. Also on DVD now: Benson: The Complete First Season Before Mr. Belvedere, we had Benson, a snarky butler played by Robert Guillaume. We recommend this if only for the nostalgia quotient. Stargate SG-1: Season 10 It's time to crawl out of your parent's basement and buy the latest in the series involving a team of Earthlings who do battle with aliens. Weeds: Season Two Mary-Louise Parker is smokin' hot as a widow who supports herself by becoming a drug kingpin. Smoke if you got 'em. Star Trek Fan Collective: Captain's Log OK, we can't help ourselves. We still giggle whenever we hear reference to the "captain's log." If it's brown, flush it down. But we digress. If you LOVE Star Trek you're going to love this compilation of favorite Trek episodes as chosen by the five captains of the Starship Enterprise (played by William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew and Scott Bakula). If you want to own this, make it so. Trackback(0)
