What's new on DVD this week?

Answer:
Ghost Rider and Breach are the biggest
box office earners to hit DVD this week, but a number of other great DVDs went on sale on Tuesday, June 12.

Ghost Rider brings the famed (or shall we say flamed) motorcycle-riding comic book character to the big screen. People are calling this the definite Nicholas Cage film, and while we've long since dismissed Cage as a Jerry Bruckheimer toady, we have to admit that Ghost Rider gets the job done.

Breach
is based on the true story of a fed who betrayed his country, selling state secrets to a foreign government. Great acting by Ryan Philippe and Chris Cooper, coupled with a dramatic, tension-filled story, make for a great DVD watching experience.

Other DVDs on sales this week include:
- Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List (Season One)

It's nice to be naughty, and Kathy Griffin is as naughty as they come. She never a celebrity she didn't love to hate, and her venom-filled comedy act, peppered with scenes from her jet-set life, make for high comedy. Her act makes celebrities squirm, but it will give the folks at home a good chuckle at their expense.

- Walker, Texas Ranger (Season Three)
Chuck Norris could kick our butt, so we'll be nice and just say that Season Three, while not bound to win any awards, is now available in stores.

- Welcome Back, Kotter (Season One)
John Travolta starred as Vinnie Barbarino in this bedrock 1970s TV show about a bunch of kids in a remedial high school learning program and the teacher who tolerates them - Gabe Kotter (played by Gabriel Kaplan). The show was based on Kaplan's real-life experiences in a Brooklyn high school. In the great tradition of Saved by the Bell and 90210, we revel in high school as only bad TV makes possible. An early ratings success, the show touched upon racial tensions of its era involving busing of students from inner city schools to the suburbs. How can you NOT love a show that gave us the catchphrase "Up your nose with a rubber hose" - golden!
