What's new on DVD today, June 26?

Answer:
Three feature films top the list of new DVDs released on Tuesday, June 26. The new DVD releases include Black Snake Moan, Dead Silence and Shooter.

Here's a look at three new DVD releases in stores now:

Black Snake Moan

After that other snake movie that dare not speak its name, you'd think Samuel Jackson would have had enough of snakes. I imagine him standing up on set and saying, "I'm tired of mother f*^$$&*( snakes on this mother f*&^(*(O set!" But no. Mr Jackson stars as Lazarus, a retired musician whose wife left him. Now he's a farmer in a small Tennessee town, which really has him singing the blue. Along comes Rae (played by Christina Ricci), a woman with big bruises and little clothing who, as it turns out, is a nymphomaniac. Jackson does what any retired blues singer would do - he takes her home and chains her to a radiator. This is a movie? Seriously? It feels more like an episode of COPS. Buy it if you must, but be prepared to take a beating - of your senses.

Shooter
This action film stars Mark Wahlberg an ex-sniper who, shades of John Rambo, now lives a quiet life in the wilderness. Soon the government comes a-knockin'. They need his help uncovering a plot to assassinate the President. The ex-sniper takes the mission but soon discovers that he's been recruited as the sniper to take down the chief executive. Then the hero stuff starts. It's not a bad film. We've seen it before but there are a few new twists. Watch it - but don't forget to duck.

Dead Silence
The
title describes the soul of this horrible horror film as much as it describes the audience response as the end credits roll. Written and directed by the same fine minds (and by that I mean totally cuckoo crazies) who brought us Saw, Dead Silence is a story (sort of) about a ventriloquist's dummy that does evil unto those who find it. We honestly don't want to re-hash any more of what we'll generously call a plotline, but suffice it to say we were not impressed. This film's tagline - "You scream. You die." is a joke when tied to this would-be horror film. More appropriate - "You suck. No really, this movie blows."
