How's Drew Carey doing as The Price is Right host?

By all accounts, comedian Drew Carey is a natural

at the helm of the classic TV game show The Price is Right. With an equal dose of pep and pomp, Carey has done a masterful job replacing Bob Barker, who hosted the show for 35 years.

Of course, this really shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. After all, Drew Carey had already proven himself a gifted game show host with his previous game show gig, called Power of 10. It was his performance on Power of 10 that put his name on the short list of successors to The Price is Right throne.

It's always difficult to say why one host succeeds where another fails, but in Carey's case his success seems to come from his genuine excitement at being on one of the most campy game shows of all time. The Price is Right has changed little since the 1970s - from the logo to the set. When the contestants scream and jump and down, it would be all too easy to poke fun at the insanity that ensues. But by joining in the exuberance, Drew Carey has already endeared himself to the show's loyal audience.
