The Daily Show host Jon Stewart has
been tapped to make his second appearance as host of the 2008 Academy Awards on Feb. 24. Stewart hosted the awards show in 2006 and gained luke warm reviews.

That's not surprising, however. Critics never give rave reviews to Academy Awards hosts. In fact, it's been called the most thankless job in Hollywood (next to being Britney Spears' publicist, we assume). But as whipping boys go, Jon Stewart is a fine choice, especially after his antics at the recent Emmys made for that award show's finest moments.

Comedians are often asked to serve as host for the film industry's biggest night. Recent hosts include Ellen Degeneres, Steve Martin, Chris Rock and Billy Crystal.
