How long has Amy Poehler been on Saturday Night Live?

Answer:
Amy Poehler joined the cast of Saturday Night Live
for the 2001-02 season. Her first episode was the first broadcast following the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Audiences immediately responded well to the blonde comedianne. In fact, Amy Poehler became only the third person in the show's history to become a full member of the cast in her first season. The other two were Harry Shearer and Eddie Murphy.

Her most memorable Saturday Night Live performances include her impersonations of pop singer Michael Jackson and Senator Hillary Clinton. When Jimmy Fallon left the show after the 2003-04 season, Amy Poehler replaced him as Tina Fey's co-anchor for the "Weekend Update" news portion of the show. When Fey left the show after the 2005-06 season, Amy Poehler was joined at the anchor desk by Seth Meyers.

Her most watched Saturday Night Live performance to date might very well be her appearance as Hillary Clinton alongside Tina Fey's Sarah Palin in a sketch that opened Saturday Night Live's 2007-08 season.

Poehler announced on Sept. 16, 2008 that she will be taking maternity leave after the election in November and won't be returning to Saturday Night Live.

"It’s going be really hard - Boyz II Men hard - to say goodbye to yesterday," Poehler said in a statement. "SNL was dangerous, late-night, last-minute and star-studded, but like any good drug, you need to know when to put it down."

Amy Poehler
is set to start in a spinoff of NBC's "The Office" next year.
