Is Larry King going to retire soon?

Larry King is not planning to

step down from his CNN talk show any time soon. The famed talk show anchor has just signed a contract extension that will keep at the helm of CNN's Larry King Live through 2010, when he turns 77.

Rumors have circulated recently that younger TV personalities were hoping to step in for Larry King, and it's possible the contract extension was meant to forestall such speculation. Former Good Morning America hostess Katie Couric, whose stint as anchor at CBS News has been a critical and ratings disaster, was said to be among the contenders to replace the suspendered one.

A recent New York Times article about Katie Couric's future reported that Couric "discussed several things she might do if she left the anchor post, according to the executives, including a daily talk show to be syndicated by CBS, or replacing Larry King in a prime-time position on CNN."
